Contrary to the high value given in our society to expertise, the ready answer and the quick comeback, the Grail Quest is concerned with questioning. It is the question, not its answer, that brings salvation to the Fisher King and all who reside within the Grail Castle. The literal translation of the question that the hero, Parzival, must ask the Fisher King according to Wolfram von Eschenbach (Parzival,~1200 C.E.), is “What are you empty of?”
The Hebrew text is the first two words from Psalm 20:6 written at the top center in Rashi script (a medieval Hebrew script): “The Divine Source will fill all your questions.”
El Santo Cáliz refers to the actual Grail Chalice located in Valencia which is, as Wolfram reported, made of stone with Arabic engraving. The Santo Cáliz of Valencia is composed of an upper half-hemisphere of carnelian and a bottom half-hemisphere of chalcedney. The very old Cufic writing engraved into the inside of the base on the original chalice, Wolfram also tells us, is held to be a transliteration of Arabic into the poor Latin: Il Lapsit Exillis, a Masonic motto meaning something like the Exiled Stone.
The chalice of Valencia is 17cm in size, which is the measurement used for the chalice in this copperwork.
